Hey guys. I've been in a bad mood all day. For the winter I always put my car away and every week I start it up for a good 5 min. Then today I went out and I turned it on and the engine light turns on. I havnt moved this car and it comes up with this light. Got me so mad so I was wondering whatt exactly does this mean. Does this light turn on alot of times or is this a serious problem if that light turns on..... Thanks

Could be any number of things. But I'm wondering if it's a Oxygen sensor or fuel mixture issue. Since you start it up and run it for just a few minutes, it doesn't really have time to warm up properly (cat convertor, etc). It could be that it thinks it is running continually rich/excessive emissions and therefore throws the code. This is just a guess.

Best thing to do is take it somewhere to read the code, reset it and see if it comes back.

Idling the engine vs. driving it for 20 minutes is a huge difference. I'd say take it out for a drive every month instead of running it for 5 minutes - doesn't allow all the fluids to circulate completely and warm up.

I mean, if you're afriad of getting the car dirty so it keeps its value by just running it for 5 minutes once a month, its going to be in poor mechanical condition when you go to sell it, so really its hurting the cars value just as much by not driving it.

Most times its usually not as bad as you think. The most common ones i have come across are the oxygen sensor, cat sensor and themostat sensor. Which is not that bad though it will cost you. But check you gas cap first as that can lead to the engine light coming on too
