Hey all, I am finally joining the club. My 2004 330xi should be arriving today or tomorrow at the dealer and I can barely wait! I ordered this thing the end of January and it has taken this long to be built and shipped from Munich. Anyways, I was curious if anyone could provide me with some expectations?! I am want to know what ACTUAL mpg I should expect to receive. How well does the XI perform in snow? Any quirks or noticeable issues that have been noted as common problems in XI's ? I'll appreciate any help! (PS .. I got the 6 spd)

Congrats! Great choice. I just ordered a 330xi in Silver Grey on Saturday. I didn't add any options but the fold down seats since everything else was satisfactory to me. Did you take it for a test drive? Surprisingly, I found the handling quite satisfying even given the additional 0.6 lift. I was also pretty happy with the acceleration, though I thought the shifter was a bit clunkier than my Integra (expected though, Honda makes the best shifters IMO). I think what you can expect is quite a few years of enjoyable driving! Congrats again!

Susie - Congrats on the purchase! Hehe, if you drive up to Pennsylvania tomorrow you can try it out in the snow - we're supposed to get 3" - 5" [8] . Everybody here likes to see pictures of the new cars so get the camera ready.

I can't give an opinion on what to expect because I'm just like you! My 330i arrived at my dealership on Saturday. I went down yesterday (Sunday) to look at it. They were closed and it was out back still wrapped up but I took pictures and video. This is my first BMW as well. I ordered mine on January 22nd and it came over on the FREEDOM. Good luck with your car!

Congrats.

I get 17 mpg or so City. 21 combined. 23-24 mostly highway. On a long trip where it was gas station, hop on highway, run til empty, and then gas up again, my mileage computer said it hit 28 mpg. I have an auto. The 330 actually is supposed to get the same or even better mileage than the 325 [?|] so expect something pretty similar.

I think BMW banks on people using their 6spd to the advantage of gas mileage and not rice stompage, thus the higer MPG estimates. [hihi]

I doubt I will be recognizing the manufacturer's stated MPG. I am always far below ... and I am not getting this car to drive like grandma! Anybody know about custom install for Radar detector?

It's illegal in VA right? Than you'll prolly have to go with either the K40 or the Passport SRX (if you can afford it). If you really want, people have done custom installs of the V1 and hid them. You don't want those rear view mirrors that show the arrows though cuz a cop can see. You can hide the remote face in many better places.

Illegal in VA .. yes. I was looking for something conceabable, do you know of any internet sites I can look that stuff up on? I currently have a BEL, ran about $200.00 and i am using the "pull it down quick" method if I see a cop. Risky, but no tickets yet.

So I got a call last night from my salesguy. He said my 330xi will be on the shipment they get in today and that I should plan on coming in Thursday the 18th to take delivery. I'll let you know IF this really comes about. The Owner's Circle still says "at final processing center" but they always are a step ahead at the BMW dealer when it comes to information about my vehicle's whereabouts!

Well, i live in the Boston area, and have a 330xi. It is alot of fun in the snow, and the system works really well. Try powering the car into a curve ( find a dead end street) and you can feel the car "correct " when the tail end swings out. Traction control is good too, and I have had a half dozen AWD SUV's over the years to compare. The limiting factor is the tires - if you are serious about snow, you need snow tires

Thanks Boston Bimmer. I am planning on getting snow tires. In college I drove a '96 Volvo 850 GLT (5spd) and had a set of snow tires for that. It was a FWD car and with the snow tires on I NEVER had a problem in snow. I would drive along with the most rugged of SUV's on highways at high speeds in blizzards and never felt any loss of control. I am expecting as much from the 330xi and am looking forward to driving it in snow (reason why I got XI instead of the I). I am driving home in it today!! SO EXCITED!

Susie, you're gonna love it. I got my '03 330xi last June. The first thing you're going to figure out is just how flippin fun it is to drive. Most everything else is secondary. I've had it now through a pretty snowy New England winter (still coming down) and what I've learned is that the limits of the car exceed the limits of my nerves. I took it out to an empty lot one snowy night and couldn't get the thing to spin out, and I don't have snow tires. The earlier poster was right, though, that snows will definitely help if you're doing lots of winter driving... laws of physics and all that. Around town I average about 19 mpg and highway trips give me 25 or 26 which I find terrific. Mine's a 5 speed. Other random observations - the fold down rear seats and heated front seats are way more useful than I expected. Rear seat passengers report more room and comfort than I expected. The stereo is good but not great like I had hoped. Other 330xi drivers will meet your eye with that knowing look. The rubber floor mats were worth every penny... can't wait til this snow stops so I can replace the carpet mats and give my car the post-winter clean up it deserves! Enjoy!
