Extended Warranties?

Hi, I recently purchased a 2003 330i with 40K miles on it. I am considering purchasing an extended warranty as well as the extended maintenance warranty to carry me through to 100K.

Any suggestions? Are the extended warranties recommended? Any recommendations on 3rd party companies or should I stick with BMW. Is there room to negotiate.

Would love some feed back.

Thanks.

I would not do it, reason being is it only gets you 2 yrs. past the the the warranty you already have. Now if you plan on putting 60,000 miles on the car in 2 yrs. one could make a cause for the extended warranty might be an option. I would put the $1100 aside and use it for repairs, I think you would come out better in the long run. Hope this helps.

BMW Warranty Extension Not an Option

"Sticking with BMW" is not an option for extending your Warranty. [unsure] BMW Warranty Extensions are limited to original owners only! To do otherwise, BMW would shoot their CPO Program in the foot.....and they're not about to do that.

You can extend the BMW Maintenance Plan while you're still under the OEM Plan regardless of whether you're the original, or the nth owner. At a minimum, it'll cover your 60K-Inspection 2, 75K-Oil Service, 90K-Inspection 1, and a couple of sets of brakes, brake flush and coolant flush, probably. If you do all or most of your own maintenance, it may probably not be worth it. Since you're even considering it, I take it you're not in that category. I added the Maintenance Plan Extension to my CPO. Just turned 54K and had Inspection 2 and brakes done for nada. So I've basically broke even with 2 1/2 years and 46K to go. But then again, these numbers are based on dealer rates which are usurous, at best.

My opinion of the non-OEM Warranties is that a lot of them seem like glorified Ponzi schemes....a lot of sales then bancruptcy. The health club syndrome. I've never had one though and many have been satisfied with their policies.

Maintenance Plan -vs- Warranty (Don't Mix)

$1,100 doesn't cover Extended Warranty cost.

Maybe Extended Maintenance Plan.

Routine Service (as indicated by Service Interval Indicator), Brakes, Wipers, Brake Flush, Coolant Flush (if not "Lifetime" fluid) = Maintenace Plan

Corrective Repairs = Warranty (subject to limitations)

Separate Rice Bowls - don't mix/confuse the two.

How much is the extended BMW Maintenance Plan?
A couple of years ago (when I bought my car) it was something like $1200 - $1500 bucks... not sure though. I went with it, and am glad I did. I'm closing in on 50K miles and would normally be worried about maintenance expenses. At this rate, I've got another couple of worry-free years.

Warranty, on the other hand, is about to expire. Could nickel and dime me to death as it ages, but at least my next two years of service will be free (including the brake pads and those dreadded inspections).

My advice is to buy the maintenance plan if you don't plan to do the work yourself.

Extended Warranties

I bought an extended warranty(GE) from the dealer at 49,000 miles to cover an additional 51,000 and am I glad I did. I have had a/c work done, a climate control head unit replaced, and a steering rack and column replaced. Recently the sunroof shade clips have broken and I'm waiting until I get close to the 100,000 mile point in case I have any other issues as each visit is a $100.00 deductable. I say buy it.

I didn't bother with warranty, my 330i has 90k and I only had AC and radiator issues, total cost around $800. I figure I am ahead. Having said that is depends on your financial situation, if the transmission goes can you come up with 5k to replace it, it's a gamble either way
