took our '04 330i to the dealer to have the service engine soon light checked and it needed a new oxygen sensor. wife got the car back from the dealer and when i went into the garage for something i noticed the horror. swirl marks on the hood!!! the dealer must've given it a wash and messed up the hood. i just washed the car last week by hand and admired how i've been able to keep the black paint looking pretty good for 14 months, no swirl marks. but the dealer washes it once and now swirl marks all over the hood. i feel so sick....i'm going to call the dealer in the morning but no idea how that's gonna go.

You have to request that your car not be washed by them. Unfortunately you didn't know they were going to do that - it will be easy to fix though, its just a little clear coat... get a coat of wax and maybe some scratch/swirl remover on there and you won't see it.

Yes, you do have to request them to not wash the car, but THAT DOES NOT WIPE THEIR HANDS CLEAN OF WHAT THEY DID TO YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!

This sort of happened to me when my car was brand new, they scratched my bumper and broke a reflector while it was being serviced. I raised a little hell and they were happy to fix it.

Take it back, raise a little hell (be nice, as nice always gets you a lot further than being a prick) and see what they are going to do about it. My guess is they will take it to their body shop (on or off site) and get those swirl marks out, to your level of satisfaction no matter what it takes.

Don't be too sick as these things happen, and it could be a lot worse. Just be calm when you talk to them.

hey thanks guys for trying to make me feel better. i talked to my service rep this morning, and i was calm but sounded sad....he said they'll take care of it no matter what it takes as long as i'm happy. he said the survey score means a lot to them so he's going to make sure i'm happy. so far i'm happy with my service rep, he was very nice and sounded apologetic. how well they take care of the problem remains to be seen but so far they're on my good side.

heh I'm definitely not saying it was right. If i shelled out $40k+ for a car and the dealer I bought it from messed up the paint job, I'd be furious until they fixed it.
