Well, finally I got the sport wagon into the tinter. As some of you know finding a Huper Optic installer is a PITA, but I finally located one here in southern MS.

I thought I was going to get 30 in the back and 50 up front, but once I got the shop and started looking it over I decided to go with 40 all around. It was a great comprimise. My main objective to tinting the windows was heat rejection vice privacy, and lastly the look.

As it turns out the 40 was a great comprimse between it all. The 40 will reject 56% of the heat (30 rejects 61%, and 50 rejects 49%). In addition it looks awesome, not too dark and not too light. My wife kept telling me she didn't want it too dark, and it isn't.

You can see from the first photo what the car looked like with no tint. The next photo is about the same angle and time of day with the tint applied, then the rest are a few pics of it. It is very hard to take a picture of the windows and show the result.

Overall, I am very glad I went with the Huper. It keeps the car alot cooler in the mid day sun! It was 95 degrees the other day and I had the A/C on auto and the fan was on the second to the lowest setting to keep it at 69 degrees. How accurate that is, not too sure, however, the fan used to be mid-high in the same conditions. So it works, rejects heat!

Very very nice Jeremy! I think the compromise was good choice. The car looks so clean and classy while at the same time it's very functional. It isn't just for looks. It goes very well with the color of the wagon.

BTW, very nice car! I have always loved the BMW wagons. For the longest time I wanted one, but got an SUV instead (more room for hauling). I still would prefer a BMW wagon though.....

What's the lowest tint you can go in Texas, as far as it being legal or not?

Because I have 30% on my car and it's not as dark as I would want it...you can still see clearly in.

Or maybe it's just me!

This may be a stupid question because I don't know a thing about window tinting, but can you tint the front windshield?

I live in South Florida and in the summer it's way too hot to put the top down on my 330 convertible during the day. The car gets pretty hot and there appears to be no tinting at all on the windows. Does it make sense to tint windows on a convertible?

Is there something special about Huper?

Thanks,

Dawn

Dawn, here in CA a tint shop will not even entertain the idea of tinting the front window. It is actually illegal here in CA to have any tinting on the side front windows...but if it is not too dark, most cops look the other way. Tinting the windscreen though is a big no no!!!

Actually, they'll tint the windshield. Just have to find teh right shop. However, that's like waving a red flag and asking for a cop to pull you over. That's aside from you losing visibility. Still, shops that sell really light tint will do it. I have a tint called V-Kool on my car as well. It comes in a 75%. I was told customers often put the 75% on their windshield cuz you really can't see any tint at all.

Huper Optik has a ceramic based tint. Not supposed to affect radio, cell phone, radar detector, etc. reception like metallic based tints. V-Kool is metallic based, so it comes in lighter shades yet rejects almost as much heat as Huper. Both brands are expensive, but they completely kick the asses of regular tint when it comes to heat rejection. If you live in a state where it gets hot, these two brands make a HUGE difference over regular tint.

See that page for your state's tinting laws. Texas says you can go 25% on the side windows. Nothing on the windshield basically. The back can have anything. Problem is, you're supposed to have a sticker somewhere that says your tint is legal.

Very nice, do the Wagons have dot matrix in the back?
Yes unfortunately the dot matrix is on the back side windows and on the back window.

The tint did not stick between the dots. I thought it would look like crap, but it isn't really noticable, except by me. I have gone over it with my finger and tried to stick it between the dots. It does stick but then after time it comes back up.

I will have to try get some pics of it.

Something I will just have to live with [rolleyes]
