I will be picking up a 2004 325 the last week of this month. Fresh from Germany - What will I have to do as far as washing, waxing, etc.........?

Is there a time frame for the first waxing?

You can wax it anytime you want since your paint has cured a long time ago.

I just use a soft cotton towel and sponge to wash my car with Zipwax. In my opinion the best time to wash it is really early in the morning or late in the afternoon. This way you won't get any baked watermarks on the paint.

Congrats on the new car. [:)]
As far as washing and waxing, your dealership will wash & wax the car when they prep it for delivery. You can wash your car as often as you feel necessary...personally, I wash my car once a week, but it's entirely up to you. But just keep in mind that the longer the dirt and road grime stays in your car, the harder it becomes to wash off!
As for the timeframe for waxing your car, it all depends on what car wax or polish you use. Most car waxes last for approximately 3 months, but auto polishes last for 6 months to a year. Personally, I wax my car exactly every 3 months using Zaino Auto Polish, and I apply two coats of polish. What car wax to use is entirely up to you. I've had a really great experience with Zaino Auto Polish and Liquid Glass Auto Polish...both of them last 6 months to a year, they protect really well, and provide a really nice shine (but now I only use Zaino). Other members on this board can give you great recommendations as well.

And if you ever get hard to remove baked on water spots on the glass the spots can be removed with white vinegar. Just use white vinegar in an old spray bottle or wet a paper towel and clean the window as if you were using glass cleaner. I then use glass cleaner to make sure all the vinegar is gone.

Last week I picked up a package of those yellow microfiber hand towels from Costco. There is also a larger version available colored blue, but Costco only had the yellows. They were about $10 or so for a pack of 10. With my jet black paint, I was having trouble with swirl marks and water spots - these microfiber towels are great. Just dry with one in one hand and follow-up with a second towel in your other hand and you're left with a just-waxed shine, even on black paint.
