I just bought my bmw 323i around a month ago and at the shop the guys said that the brake pads looked good and same with the rotors! well every now and then when i slow down the steering wheel shakes and it sounds like its grinding, i called my local bmw dealer and they said it maybe just aftermarket brake pads???

I found some cross drilled zimmerman rotors and some german pads for 170.00
should i buy those and try them....good deal???

One quick look and you should be able to determine if the brake pads are OEM. I've heard varying success stories about aftermarket BMW brake pads, There are a few threads around here on different brands.

sounds like your discs are warpped. Fair enough for the grinding but the steering should never shake under braking pressure. Try and jack the car up and slowly spin the wheels. If it sticks at a certain spot, then it could be warp, or most probably a warp. I had a similar problem to yours, turned out to be a faulty disk. Or try the rolling road.

Yea i think that it is a warped rotor, the only reason i thought that it may be the brakes is because of the steering shaking? You said try the rolling road??

thanks

A shimmy in the steering wheel at high speeds and light braking is normally a warped rotor. Grinding is the pads. If anything is really grinding I'd take a look at those pads ASAP. I replace my own rotors and pads. I've always been happy with BMW stock...I'd try something else but I just have never found anything that people say is SOOO much better.

Brembo OEM rotors are supposed to last longer than BMW OEM rotors (Or so I'd read a few places before I bougt). I have a front/rear set on now, we'll see how long they actually last. Running Hawk HPS pads too. Mostly pad selection has to do with the amount of brake dust you want to live with (Some pads offer little to no dust - but usually this also impacts your car's braking ability as well).
