Fuel Pump

I'm going to need a new fuel pump in the next few months (it's making a slight whining sound -- not too loud but it's noticeable from inside the car.) and bavauto's price for the fuel pump is $ 209.95, part number 16 14 1 179 992

I'm happy to see that it's a very easy repair, just removing the back seat and a metal cover. The problem is simply finding the money to replace it. I saw that autozone or one of the car chains had an off brand pump for $180 or something, but I figured I would ask here first, to see if anyone might be parting out a car?

if i am not mistaken, you will always hear the fuel pump form inside the car. but when it gets really loud, (i mean REALLY LOUD) then you know its time to change it. i didnt know that so it died on me. btw i got a used one off ebay for $30. i think it works too........

Well, its just a slight hum. If i have the heater fan on "2" i can not hear the pump over the fan (which isnt too loud).

it doesnt sound like ittl be a problem for a while. mine was SCREECHING, and thats when i was half way between NY and KY, but it made it about another 1k-2k miles before it died.

Well i'll wait till it screaches to replace it... or until i decide to blow $200 on a fuel pump.

I might be bidding on that 2nd auction ben linked to. Nothing wrong with having it on hand, especially if i can get it that cheap.

I think that's a great way to go. At least at that price, if it doesn't work out...it won't be a big loss. Especially since it's the sender and pump together.

Just in case anyone doesn't know...models after 09/87 have an additional fuel sender on the left side of the tank. 08/87 and previous didn't have this, they only had one.

also all models before 9/87 have 2 fuel pumps, one in the tank and one outside it somewhere. after that its just one in the tank.
