I knew mine wasnt burnt out. We had this conversation before, but some of you wernt sure of having ever seen it, well you have to let that needle get below the R line. I ended up putting 14.1 gallons in, how big is that tank?

DIN is Deutsche Industrial Norm

DIN standards are for 50 kilometers to failure. That is 28 miles for you cold beer drinkers.

On e30 it is the same tank just a L/H tank switch.

what does the R mean i know it means empty but why is it an R and not an E is the R some german word

No, both of mine are 2 doors. The specifications don't seem to be different for 2 or 4 door, although it does state that the M3's capacity is only 14.5 gallons.
Both the 325ix, and Conv capacities are 16.4 gallons also.

Yeah, i dont think there is any way i could get 16 in it.
I was just posting about this subject with my surprise at how low you have to be on fuel before the light goes on. it seems that all the other cars i drive, it goes on even before the red area - personally, i like when this one goes on... dont bother me with low fuel dammit until im ready for it

My wife thinks "R" in German means "Recurit your husband to go get gas". Haha

haha. every time someone gets in my car they always say why is the empty sign an R and i say it means refuel.
