Fuel tank - interchangeable?

I need to purchase a fuel tank for my 88 325. I'm considering getting a used tank and was wondering if the fuel tank for the 325 is the same as for the 325i. Also, does anybody know if I could put a fuel tank from a different year, say a 91 model 325?

Well i'd say a tanks a tank. there all designed pretty much the same so as long as the capacity is the same then it should fit and worst comes to worst a bit of fabing and you'll have yourself an octane factory

All of the fuel tanks for the 325 E30 were the same exept for the 325ix which you wouldn't find anyway. I would have to check again with the ETK but I believe that they are the same for coupe cabrio, and I know that they are the same for the sedan. The BMW part number is 16 11 1 180 175, or
16 11 1 179 721
