Gas treatment

Usually with my other cars, I always add a Gas treatment additive to cleanout the engine for residues.

Is there a special gas treatment additive for BMW?
Can I use the regular additive (i.e. STP Carburator/Fuel Injector cleaner)?
Will the STP have any effect to the car? [???1]

Personally, I feel that those STP additives really only help very old cars. But at the very least, they can't hurt your car. The Check Engine Light may turn on for the duration of that gas tank containing the STP additive, but it's perfectly normal. Give it a shot, if you want.

what causes the light to go on? is there a chemical sensor that checks the gaz itself? i strongly doubt that, so what is it?

I would not use STP. Chevron Techron is very good and recommended by many BMW techs. I use Redline Si-1 injector cleaner and have for over 10 years. Not a problem and also recommended by many BMW techs.

Check out Redline's fuel injector cleaner. I've never heard a bad word about any of their products!
