I need your opinion on this:

My 2001 330i is already out of warranty and it has 53K miles on it.
The car is in immaculate condition and is very well taken care of.

My steptronic never gave me any problems but I use sport mode for most part.
I am planning to get a new M3 and as soon as I pay off the 330i.

Should I trade the 330 in? My fear is if something happens to my steptronic
and then I have to mortgage my soul to get it repaired.

Based on the reports on this forum I wonder if the step is a problem that
has a great risk of breaking down.

I would appreciate your input on that [8)]

Unless the dealer gives you a great deal on the M3, sell privately...Dealers are rape artists when it comes to trading in and don't even have the courtesy of putting lub on [:(!]

There haven't been any reports of '01 models with the problem. The TSB states 9/02. The problem shows up after a few hundred to several thousand miles. It seems very unlikely that you have anything to worry about.

that a boy!

my buddy has an A4 and the dealer offered him 17K for it, he turned them down and sold it privately for 21K[thumb]

here's the scary thing you will make more if you SELL your car privately and yet on the same token you will get a better price if you BUY YOUR same car from a private seller..this is how much dealers hike up the prices on used cars....stay away from them..unless they offer you the M3 at invoice(you could get them to do this buy telling them that the markup they will put on your trade in will more than cover for letting the M3 go at invoice and put money in their pocket from selling your trade in)...especially if they had a leftover from '03 with no miles on it.

Just my 2cents

Good Luck

Why should we give up?

I am now beginning to wonder also. Sure hope BMW steps up and addresses our concerns.

what is this whole steptronic problem that everyone is talking about?
unless you have an early build 04 model, you really don't have anything to worry about. If you do have an early 04 model, try not to pull out ALL of your hair
