Here's a link for those interested in i-drive. It appears that those who are computer literate and willing to spend a few minutes learning the system think i-drive is a great necessity (the dash/console area isn't populated with a thousand buttons and knobs).
[idea]

Contrary to popular opinion, I'm hoping i-drive eventually makes it to the 3-series. Once you pass the learning curve, you get to have your cake and eat it too.

That's a great article. I have always thought of I-Drive as a computer geeks' heaven for a car. I mean what could be more fun than to have a techno marvel like that in your car. It is not for everyone and that is where BMW has faltered. I think you have to be somewhat computer saavy to use it and as we all know, not all people are. I can't wait till I can afford a BMW with it.

Pass the cake.

The whole "iDrive is bad" thing is WAY overrated. When my uncle was showing me his 745Li, I had no problem learning the basic features of iDrive on my own (I started playing around before he started telling me what does what). I admit that I am young and heavily part of the computer generation, but I really think it's quite easy. You wanna change the radio station? Go to Entertainment>Radio>and then either choose from your list of presets, or just rotate the iDrive knob to select your own station. It really is a piece of cake to use and once you really learn how to use the system, it allows you to adjust the car's settings (such as CD/radio, climate control settings, etc.) without having to take your eyes off the road. IMO, iDrive is the best tool I've ever seen in a car...period.
