I have a few questions that I could use some advice. It seems to me that the consensus is that the PS2 is the best tire out there but it is obviously very expensive. According to the tirerack, the F1 actually scored better:

Any explanation for the differences?

Also, my rears are worn out with the Bridgestone Potenza RE040 and the front ones still have about 50% left (pretty good for 33,000 miles) so I am looking for replacement tires. Should I get matching front and rears, or can I simply replace the rear tires with the F1 and run the rest of the Bridgestones in the front?

Arghhh... no real good webpage that describes all of this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd advise against mixing fronts and rears. The F1's also scored highest in a Car&Driver or Road&Track magazine's high performance tire test. It's my next tire. I'm sure you'll get plenty of opinions to the contrary.

I have the PS2's. So far, I'm not terribly impressed. Got a buddy with the F1's. He's very happy. Since it's cheaper and I don't really see anything special about the PS2's, I'd say go for the F1's.

I actually prefer my OEM Dunlops to the PS2's.

Hey guys,

I'm needing new summer tires in a few weeks from now so I was also gathering some info to make a good choice between the manufacturers. I still have the original set of Contisportcontacts 1 on the front axle and my second set on the rear (Michelin PS2). The conti's suck (although the new conti's seem to be good) and I very much like the PS2's. But this post made me think about the F1's as well (in favor of the PS2's). So I called up my tire shop this afternoon for a price comparison. PS2 167,5 Euros including labor per tire and 150 for the F1's. But the first thing he asked after hearing the words 'Goodyear F1' was
: "Are you driving a high performance BMW or Mercedes? If so, don't choose the F1's because they tend to CUP on the rear wheels (unequal wear)." In other words once you're halfway through your rear tires they vibrate, make the car pull to one side etc. I have no reason not to believe this guy so I'm choosing the Sportcontact2 or the PS2.

just my 2 cents

oh, if someone is already driving on F1's, any experience with this?

Peter
