Guages Out!

While driving today, my tach, fuel guage, and temp guage went out. All of them flat out on 0. I tried turning off the car then turning it back on and they work for about 4 seconds then drop back down to 0. Also i tryed disconnecting my battery. It cant be a fuse problem sense they work for a little while, so what else could it be? Any suggestions? (1989 325iS)

Try pounding on the dash above the gauges. If they start working intermittently, then some of the solder joints in the gauge circuit board have loosened up. It's a common problem with the E30.

Could be the SI board, another common e30 problem.

i have had the same problem, i replaced the batteries on the si board. it fixed it, the next time it happened i bought a remote battery case and wired it into the si board. i mounted the battery case in a convinent location under the dash.
