Hi to all,
how many of you really believe that a car will get damaged not using it ????
I'm one of those who use very rarely the car couse town traffic is terrible.
I just switch it on to keep engine working, bactery up and tyres moving once evrey 15 days............everybody who hears this start saying "don't you know you're damaging your car this way ?! Cars must be used at least twice a week !!!"
I think this is a metropolitan mith......what's your opinion ?
Thanks

[thumb] I really don't know if you can damage a vehicle by not driving it, however I can't understand why you would want to own a vehicle, especially a BMW that you can't or don't drive. I live in and work around Washington D.C. where the traffic is terrible and roads are horrible. I purchased my bimmer in 1999, it's a 2000 323i therefore I've owned it just over seven years. I just crossed over 205K. I love to drive it, can't wait to drive it and feel I'm neglecting her when I'm not driving her. Yes, I've spent big dollars on repairs of the stuff that wears out, but I would pay double for the return of the simple pleasure of driving a sound automobile on the open road and even on the congested, traffic logged roads of the over crowded big city. I bought my ultimate driving machine to enjoy the driving pleasure. While I'm sure you're saving a ton of money on repairs, your bimmer is sitting waiting and wanting some love. Just my two and a half cents worth. Happy Motoring or not...

I subscribe to the theory that you should run the car for about 1/2 an hour continuously at least once a week. Keep parts moving so things don't freeze up or settle, tire doesn't get flat spots, keeps battery charged up, etc. Sounds easier to me than doing all those storage preparation things.

I'd just take it out of the city on a weekend and blast around on the autostrada or countryside for a little bit every week.

Yes You're both right............I use it rarely becouse I work right in front of my house, but I've been dreaming a convertible BMW for years, and at last I decided to get it even if I use it very little.

I agree that 1/2-1 hour driving each week is sufficient to keep it in shape !

The twisties are calling out to you, my friend... :)

I go canyon driving once a month w/ my RX-8 car club. And, we have a ton of fun- pushing the cars hard on the mountains while also enjoying the great weather & scenery. One of the few benefits of living in So. Cali I think...

Here's a little something to wet your appetite...
