Has anyone else washed their car at night?

I tried this on Saturday night in my driveway and it was so much easier than washing in the day. I did it because I got plastered by hundreds of bugs when I drove over a large (Lake Jesup) on a bridge and I couldn't stand to leave it overnight. My wife thought I was nuts as usual.

The car stays wet all the time so there are no water spots to worry about. Here in FL washing outside in the driveway your car drys so quickly that it's hard to not get spotting, especially on the glass.

Anyways I found it worked really well.

I am pretty sure I would be certified insane (even more than now) by my neighbors if they came by and saw me washing at 10PM on a Saturday night though.....No of my neighbors can believe how much I detail my cars as it is.

Usually during the day but sometimes when I was off my schedule I had no choice but to wash it very close to dark....

My favorite time to was my car is when the sun is setting down: It is not hot and the wet shine looks great [:D].

However washing when dark can be harmful if you are not careful.. especially waxing.

I haven't washed it at night because of bugs in summer and too chilly in winter. But, years ago I washed my truck once in the rain. Talk about getting a few stares from the neighbors. [rolleyes]

Interestingly enough there were no bugs out at my house that night. And believe me now that I think about it I can't believe that wasn't a problem for me as the mosquitos around here can carry you away.

I will try sunset next time, altho it takes me upwards of 2 hours to totally detail her, so I will have to time it right.

When you wax at night you run the risk at scratching the car for you cannot see every piece of potential dust or small rocks.

When you wash the car at night I feel little disconnected from the car...

Washing at night sounds like a good idea but I don't have enough light. We can only have association approved lights that are the same on all houses and don't put out much light. And yes, we have to pay for them to be on from dusk to dawn but can’t change them to something useful, they just have to stay there and look nice.

I wash at sunset too. You don't want to wash in direct sunlight so dawn or dusk is pretty much it for me due to how the houses on my street are set up. I wish we had one of those light thingies over our garage. THen I would have enough light to wash at night.
