I just bought a 2001 330i for 22k. Great condition, 48k miles. Don't know if that is a good deal or not, and am interested in finding that out. It has the premium package, xenon lights, business cd, heated, blah, blah..

Is this a good deal? And what is up with the slow motor on the drivers side? Today it seems that my hazards no longer work as well as the door locks? Is this something I can fix, and if so how? How much is this going to cost me to fix if not? I know I have a lot of questions, but I am stoked about being able to post to this newsgroup. This is my first "new" car ever.. Keep me proud, and let me know what you people think. I love the freaking car to death, but I never have spent that kind of money for a car.

Thank you in advance!

$22K sounds pretty good. I'm not a mechanic so I dunno how hard that stuff is to fix. Some of the handier people are bound to post sooner or later. Maybe tomorrow.

clarification

The door locks work, what I meant was that the hazards and center button that unlocks/locks the doors don't work anymore. Also, seems that the reset button on the tripometer doesn't work right either. Hope I didn't buy a lemon.

I am gathering that German's haven't figured out how to wire a car yet. But boy does it drive nice.

err, they've never figured out how to wire a car yet. They're like the British but without the bad rap. It's like it's a secret or something. A German car is likely to be solid mechanically. If anything is gonna go wrong, it's gonna be related to electrical most likely. Just wait til it rains. That's when the windows or moonroof like to get stuck in the open position. It's happened to two people I know, of varying vintages of BMWs.

The answer is Yes! The locking component that controls the windows, locks.... has failed. This is a common problem with the 3's I am now finding. I own a 2000, 323i and just learned the hard way about this little problem, or in my case a big problem. My locks failed two weeks ago, locking my small child in the car. There is no way to get into a BMW, but to break the window out, which is what I had to do. My car is just out of warranty and Bmw says this is a freak thing and they do not plan to stand good for it. Since I found this site, I see that many of us are having this problem. The mechanic even got locked in my car while it was being repaired. Everyone needs to be aware of this problem. The component cost $237.00 plus labor. Good luck!

Just wondering, did you press and hold the button down for few seconds? And make sure that you are reading the tripometer when you are pressing it. That's all. If that does not work, then there most likely a problem.

For the hazards light and door lock buttons, you might want to find the way to get access the connects of those button to see whether it has a loosing connection before bringing your car into the shop for service. It might be just a easy fix without big bucks.

Good Luck!
