any deck that comes with a remote can be used for your s/w controls. The remote is hidden behind your dash and the installer will hook up the remote functions to your wheel. Mind you , you will probably not have all your functions . I have 6 functions . It cost another $100 for the module and install of the remote . Like I said you wont have all of your functions but you will have the ones you designate to your installer to hook up for you under which button on your wheel. Hope I make sense..

You know there is the option of a MP3 CD palyer mounted in the trunk. My setup uses the factory mounting in the trunk and also allows hookup of XM through an aux audio input.

That way you wont muck up the BMW look with a non-OEM faceplate. Also you will retain all wheel controls and there will be no one going into your dash.

If your motives are just MP3s and XM, this is the way to go IMHO.
