Heat & AC on at same time

Got a problem with my wifes 01 325Ci. HEre in New England its cold and snowy , again. when My wife puts her heat on she gets some hot air on the floor but COLD air blasts out the dash vents. she had to close them but it seems to limit the hot air dispersed and thre car never really gets warm inside. According to the dash controls the AC is not on, but where is all this cold air coming from??

There is a "wheel", vertically positioned, that turns and is situated between the two center vents above the console on the dash. There are little blue and red dots on them. If the wheel is not rotated so that you see all three red dots, you'll be getting less than the maximum heat as cold outside air will be drawn in. Chances are the wheel is positioned w/ all three blue dots showing. Hopefully this will solve the problem. If not, possibly an internal valve is stuck open and letting in cold air somehow past the heater.

My g/f did the same thing once when she borrowed my car. Cept it was in teh summer on a 90 degree plus day and the dial was set to all 3 reds.

yup, that little wheel did it. nice warm air coming out now. gotta read the manual a little closer. thanks for your help [bmwdance]
