I have a 2002 330I with 5K miles. It has developed a noise from the back of the car when braking. It sounds like the Battery is sliding forward and hitting the stop when you brake.
I checked the battery, spare tire and everything else in the trunk. It all is tight and is not the problem. Does anyone have any other Ideas, something is loose somewhere???

Thanks
Rob

I think it is in the rear under the car. If you brake real easy it is not a problem but when you get on the brakes you hear the thud!! I am positive it is not from the trunk. I went through the trunk.

I had a similar problem and had to take it to the dealership a few times before I finally found a mechanic who knew what he was talking about. I described it more as a clunking sound that happened pretty much every time I slowed to a stop. It came from the rear underside of the car, but it almost sounded like something from the trunk. The mechanic said it was a flange that needed to be updated and they replaced the part for free.

Now that my car is out of warranty, I've noticed it's starting to happen again. I've just gotten good at ignoring the sound.
