I own a 2000 323i and recently every so often (maybe 1 time per day) when i chift to 3rd gear, the gear will instantainiously throw the stick out of gear as soon as i let off the clutch causing the gear to grind, like it would if you didnt know how to drive a stick.
I dont know much about the internals of the car (which is why i wanted to be a member of these boards) and it just seems to me that some teeth are missing? causing to stick to return to neutral and out of 3rd. If i keep my hand on it and apply pressure, itll click and go into 3rd and stay there for good, but i have to apply pressure not everytime i move into 3rd just incase it decides to toss me out of that gear.
Any ideas what it could be? and how much a job like that could cost?
Im in the process of going through and fixing anything and everything wrong with the car. its at 120,000 miles. Hard miles and maybe a little to abusing. Its paid off soon, so i can dump cash into it then and wanna restore it entirely.
Thanks for any help you can give me
