I've used it once, my salesman didn't point mine out either. Stumbled on it by accident while I was looking for my utility knife in the glove. The part that I love is that its rechargable so you don't have to worry about replacing the battery.

ok depends where you live as to what kit you get but;

you can get;

the flash light
fire extinguisher
warning triangle (in the boot/trunk)
spare bulbs
first aid kit
tool kit

and probably some i've missed off. you really only get these because in many European countries (germany included) you must carry most of the above

That flashlight is only used for short emergencies. I tried to change a license plate frame. Started getting really weak before I was done putting back the screws. That's not a long time. I'd keep a small LED flashlight in the glovebox just in case.

And teh flashlight and toolkit are the only things I have in there. No first aid kit (space to add one in tho), no warning triangle (I know this is a euro thing), def no fire extinguisher (and I hope to never need one), no spare bulbs (altho this would be nice).

You're all too funny. The BMW glovebox flashlight has been around since E12 in the early 70s. It has since been known as one of the identifiers of the brand. I thought it was just SOP that you got a new BMW delivered and you just opened the box as if to say, "yup, still there, like always". Mom, apple pie, baseball, and the flashlight in your bmw...

Your emergency kit should be in the trunk, and one other fun thing that's new since regulations now require them is the emergency glow-in-the-dark trunk pull that opens the trunk from the inside. That way you can lock anyone you'd like in the trunk and rest easy knowing they can get out...... whoopee.

No emergency kit for me. And I like the E class' emergency trunk pull better. It's a button, not just a lever like in the BMW. It's got a clear plastic surround that has a light to light it up on top of the glow in the dark plastic material of the button. Gives you more of a chance of finding it just in case you have to wait the carjackers out or something.

i didnt get a first aid kit and i talked to my cousin about it, him being a parts deliverer at bmw. he said that they remove them at the dock because of the medicine contained in the kit. dunno if thats reliable info, but thats just what i heard.

I asked my salesperson when I took delivery of our 325i (California). We do not get a first aid kit. He attributes it to liability issues with the medicine. I see that being a good reason given the litigious nature of our state.

Had a headache and I took a pill from my kit that I thought was an aspirin, but I now think it's just some kind of mind-altering German drug to trick the Americans.

Seems like all I want to do at night is watch reruns of Hogans Heroes on TVLand......

Actually my car came with no kit.
