High revving engine

This is my first of many Bimmers. God I love this car! My 325i has about 300 miles now. When driving 85 MPH on the highway, I noticed the tach is just short of 4k RPM in 5th gear (I have a 5 speed stick). My question is, if I drive cross country at highway speeds, is there going to be an issue with the engine revving relatively high for such a long period of time?

thanks,

-D

nope sure not. bmw would not build the gearbox in a way that it would be harmfull to the car. that would be so stupid not be true. actually 4k is not even high revving. i consider 5500 and up as high.

For my 325i auto. it usually revives short of 3k at 85 MPH without inclination.

Sieben, is this a difference between the manual and auto tranny? Of course, there is some dependence on the gear ratio but I would think that a 5 speed stickwould rev lower (at 5th gear) than a 4 speed automatic, at the same speed (i.e. 85 MPH). Confused....
