I would like to fix the distortion I am getting with the HK upgrade unit in the trunk. Can I just upgrade the sub in the back (i am assuming there is one there)? What are the dimensionis of the sub? Has anyone made changes to this and gotten a better sound? Any help would be appreciated!

This is what I followed when I did my sub upgrade: Link

I kept mine simple but the results were/are very solid. I went with an Elemental Design package: 13kv.2 Sub and NINe.2 amp all in a 1cu/ft sealed box. My solution was cost effective (<$300), weight effective (@ 30lbs added) and anything from hip-hop to classical sounds good. [:D]

From the link it seems a quick and cost effective way to get a better sound is to replace just the sub. Anyone did just this and what would be a good replacement (speaker brand)?

That's all I did; just replaced the sub (I removed the entire HK sub unit) and replaced with this.

When I bought last year, I was one of the first to buy and paid @ $200. Now it looks like it's closer to $300. At least shipping is free. [thumb]

@ Gpoints:

where did you put the whole 1cu/ft box? In the center of your trunk or to the left side?

Thnx
It's placed on the driver's side just behind the rear seat facing towards the back of the car.

Also, just to make it clear the subs in the trunk are 6x9?? Crutchfield is saying 5.25 for the trunk! Which is it?

kick panels 5" 1/4 x2
rear parcel shelf 5" 1/4 x2
front mid 2" x2
rear door mid 2" x2
subs 6x9 2ohm x2
(single voice coil)
tweeters 3/4" x6
Does that help? Those are the standard sizes for HK systems in BMW(E39 and E46). This is what i got from piecing together information from various sites and hearsay so dont quote me on this...all i am sure of is that it is the same in all E39 and E46's. I got lucky and had the stock system so i had endless upgrade options......
