Homelink remote

I have the Homelink remote, last week I tried to clear the memory to change my garage door signal and it wouldn't clear. I talked with homelink and they assisted me in trying to clear any and all the memory, but couldn't. They said I would need to bring it in to the dealer for replacement. I have a couple of questions?
1. How many people have the homelink?
2. Have you had any problems with your homelink?
3. Does anyone know if homelink is covered under the vehicle warranty?
Thank everyone! [cheers]

Hi there fellow alabamian, How do you know it's not clearing the memory? The programming guide says to hold down the two outside buttons, this will initialize the memory and erases previous settings. then you need to use your hand held transmitter to program the Homelink to open your garage door. Do you have the instructions that came with the Homelink?

The green light stay lit and doesn't blink regardless of how long I hold down buttons 1 and 3. Memory will not clear. You can clear one at a time by just holding down that button for approx 20 sec while the steady green light will begin to blink telling you the memory has cleared. If it doesn't blink, memory hasn't cleared. This is straight from the homelink tech.

it takes a looooong time for the light to start blinking. i just installed my transmitter couple days ago. (total cake walk!) programming the transmitter, while quite simple, is still a mystery to me.. am i dumb?? [scratch]

Mine was seemingly easy, however I do remember having to repeat the process about 3 times to get it to function properly. Also when pressing 1 and 3 to completely erase the previous memory, I had to make sure I pressed both EXACTLY the same time and for quite a while before the light started blinking.

I've got the homelink option (built into rear view mirror). I had similar experiences as the others who have posted here. The two outer buttons (1 & 3) must be pressed for a longer than expected time. I held them down for at least 10 seconds before I got the flashing light. It didn't work the first time because I didn't press the buttons at exactly the same time. I tried again, held longer, and it worked like a charm. Programming is a snap too. Tip: hold the transmitter really close to the receiver.

Is installing the remote really easy? I know it's pre-wired for the remote, but I know you have to cut into the fabric and other materials. Is that easy too? I guess my question is how easy is it to screw up?

I want this garage remote...but I am affraid to cut anything on the car.

There is a DIY out there and I have read it and it looks relatively easy. You do have to cut the fabric and the plastic and also connect it to a wiring harness.

I had mine installed at the dealer when I bought the car. They threw it in as part of the deal.

It is an easy DIY installation and I found the instructions easy to follow. Remember not all garage door openers are compatible especially if it uses rolling code technolgy. Check for compatibility in the owners manual or call the opener manufacturer. I have a Genie and it works. My son has an older Sears opener and it does not but it does operate the gated entry which does not use rolling codes.

The install is very, very easy my friends.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Just pull the stock pannel and make the cuts. The remote snaps in and your basically done. You can be a little sloppy, but not overzealous with the exacto knife.

The one in my car now I don't use. Since I might be trading it in soon, I was going to pull it out and get a stock pannel to install.Might be up for a 1 for one swap on the panels if anyone is interested.
