I am located in California and am in the process of trying to lease a new manual transmission 2004 BMW 325ci Convertible with an allowance of 12K miles/year on a 36 month lease. I would very much rather have no down payment (because if your car gets stolen, then you just lose this down payment). So far I have received price quotes (with sales tax from Santa Barbara country already integrated into the monthly payment price) with no down payments in the high 6's... around $680 per month with a $1100 drive off fee (includes first month, license fees, etc) for a 36 month lease. The MSRP for these cars is around $43K or so.

Personally, I think the $680 figure is extremely high. I would very much like to get it down about $100 per month to around the high 5's ($580/month) or even lower. Does anyone have any ideas on how best to negotiate this? Are there any incentives or deals which I don't know about? While I am in California, I would be fine buying it in another state if it were cheaper and have them ship it to me in CA. Am I just dreaming?

Any and all help would be appreciated!!

BMW 325ci Convertible
Exterior Color: Silver Grey
Interior Color: Grey (preferred) or Black leather
Premium package
Upgraded sound
Leather seats
Manual Transmission PREFERRED but automatic okay if that is all there is.
Lease= 36 month lease, no down payment, 12K miles/year, with sales tax
integrated into the monthly payments. My address in California is
locatedin Santa Barbara County (93103) so please use that to
calculate sales tax.

Thanks!

The monthly payment you want would be extremely difficult to achieve. It's a $43,000 car with a 60-65% residual value after 3 years, $680/month based on your lease terms is a fine price, but you can definitely do better. I think the best lease price you can get is strictly in the $600/month price range. Try to negotiate a better lease price...don't bother attacking the selling price of the car, just try to get your dealership to lower the lease price.
Contact other dealerships, in fact go to the dealerships in person and show them that you're serious. If you're 100% ready to go with this car, take your checkbook with you....if the dealership knows you're ready to lease a BMW on the spot, they'll be very willing to reach your desired lease price to make the sale. But keep in mind, you have to aim for a realistic lease price. For a $43K car, I would aim fora low $600/month price range, based on $0 down, taxes included, 36 months/12K miles per year.

Are you sure you'd rather lease? and not buy? You know when you lease you are stuck with the car for 36months, regardless if its a delight or a pain in the ass... Buying might be better, you don't have to worry about after charges or whatnot and mileage. Not to mention you can sell it whenever you want, BMW for some reason has an insanely high resale value. People buy 3 yr old BMWs with say 30k miles (low) for the price or a new accord/camry.

The only real value in leasing is the tax write off.[nono]

I am purchasing for $675 per month. I could have leased for $580 per month. The first offer the dealer made was a lease for $650 per month but I negotiated to $580. When I left the dealer, I contacted my credit union as well as entered my info on Lendingtree.com.

In the end, I just felt more comfortable with the purchase payment than with a lease. As you can see, it's a loaded '04 325 cabrio sans navi.

Thank you for responding to my post!! I'm glad to hear that you were, in fact, able to negotiate the lease down to $580 per month. How many months was this potential lease for and was there any down payment... also, does the $580 include sales tax within that figure or is it seperate? If I am able to negotiate down to $580 with taxes included in that price, then I've reached my mark!!

Do you mind telling me what state you are in and perhaps even what dealership gave you the $580 price quote?

I am located in California and so far no dealers will go below $650 - they all want at least a $1000 down payment to go below that. Any suggestions or advice?

I actually want the same EXACT car you have except I think I'd prefer Manual Transmission. How do you like the Silver Gray / Gray combination? I was thinking Silver Gray / Black but thought the black seats might get too much when the top is down and the sun is beating down on me. I also don't really want the sports package but it seems like almost 99% of all cars ordered by Cali dealers have this option.

I was also deciding between this car and the Audi A4 3.0 Convertible. Did you look into that car at all and, if so, why did you choose the BMW in the end?

Thank you again for posting your info. This really does help! If you have any questions for me, please just let me know.

Thanks again,
Dave

Hmmm, what was your residual percentage? I only ask because my car was 43,000 and my residual is 26,500 on a 36/15k. I realize the term is a bit shorter, but the difference seems extreme.

hmmmm I dont know the residual percentage but the paperwork says
Residual = $24,200.00.........I think because I'm paying higher monthly fees, my residual is lower than usual..........I plan to sell it or purchase it at the end of the lease since I think the residual is pretty good........

Tell them you want $600 flat...... and thats all you're paying and if they wont budge you'll take your business elsewhere. Call other dealers and get prices over the phone, and then make them up lower than they quote say if someone says $660 tell the dealer someone else _____ dealer offered me $640 can you beat it?
Or you can say that you really like (favor this dealership) and if they could come close to that offer, so you can maintain loyalty etc....

Thats my best suggestion, when it comes to leasing I would rather buy. It's much better trust me. Instead of leaving the money in the bank you're better off buying the car.

GO TO: WWW.SWAPLEASE.COM
You can take over a lease that someone else had already put money down on, possible get more miles, for much less money. BMW charges $450 to transfer papers, chances are whoever the person is getting rid of the car will pay or at least split these costs.

I had a 2003 BMW 330i that I put down $3000 and had a payment of $500 a month, with 18,000 miles a year. I transfered thsi on swap lease becasue I had to get out of the car, someone got it for $500 a month only and gets up to 54,000 miles in the next 2 years (still 37,000 miles left for 2 years of driving, lots of miles) great deal for these people.

There are tons of cars on swap lease just like it.

This is your car, perfect match for you:

Found it on a quck Swaplease search, it is a 2003 located in San Fransico.
The owner will pay you $2000 to take over the lease!
Payment is $426 a month for the next 19 months.

It is a 2003 325ci, silver with black leather, manual tranny (exactly how you wanted it).
There is 22007 miles left for 19 months.

Good luck with your search!
This is the link to the car, hope it works!

With the $2000 incetive this person is offering someone to take over the lease for the next 19 months, basically your paying $321 a month to drive the car.

current payment is $426 x 19 = $8094
$2000 / 19 = $105 per month saving
$426 - $105 = $321 per month

Sounds like a good deal to me, then if you liek the car you can buy it out for the residual.

It looks like the lease rates for BMW are high right now. Last year mine was only 500.00/month for 36. Today mine would be 670.00.

swaplease.com is a good option because you can benefit from lower lease rates.

I think residual values are coming down, BMW's are depreciating faster so they raise the lease payments to make up for this.

Your car is worth less after 3 years now then it was in the past so the payment goes up to cover the difference.

It sucks, but I think it is true.

They will come down again in Aug. & Sept. to help move the 2004 before the 2005 delivieries pick up.

It is a great site, except they want $35 just to respond to ads there!!! That is a lot of money just to reply to an ad and who knows how many of those ads are fake or already sold to someone else....
