I replaced my high performance ps2 tires about 2 months ago. I do drive my car a lot, and was wondering what the average life span of the tires are.

THanks! [driving]

I just replaced the front tires on my 02 330i for the first time at 58,000 miles! Contisport 225/50/17. I do a lot of interstate driving. The rear tires (245/40/17) were replaced at approx 40,000 miles. I could not believe I got that many miles.. I am sure city or hard driving would make a big difference.

each tire has a tread wear rating heheh. they are all different.
my dunlop sp9000's for ex are gone at 25,000 miles.

however my kumho 712's are supposed to be good until
40ish thousand miles. i'm sure i'll wear em out faster what
with the burnouts and donuts i do =]

visit tirerack.com and lookup your tire...and look at the treadwear
rating

The life span, under average/normal driving, can be anywhere from 15K to 50K miles. There are SO many factors:
- As others mentioned, the rating on the tire (all else equal, a 400 rating tire will last twice as long as a 200 rating tire)
- how you drive - conservative, aggressive, smoke 'em all the time
- the average road temperature in your area - Death Valley vs. Fairbanks, Alaska (hot tires wear faster)
- The road surface itself

You should look for a 300 and up rating for longer life.

in general you can say that high performance tires wear much faster as the rubber is smoother and develops more grip. the pay for that high performnce is higher wear and tear. a hard rubber mixture reduces the performance but lasts longer.

[thumb] I generally replace tires about every 55,000 miles when I'm running Pirelli's and having them rotated every 5,000 miles with oil changes. I think the frequent rotation extends the tire life a great deal, this is also provided you have tires that can be rotated. I am just now replacing tires I bought last September. I have to replace them because the two rear tires are coming apart before my very eyes. My only problem is that the tires I usually run; Pirelli P-Zero Nero is on International back-order; whatever that means and I will have to switch brands, so i'm going to take the advice of my mechanic and try the new Toyo Proxes 4 which is supposed to be as good or better. I will report back... [driving2]

Here's one you will find Kirby -- the Cooper tires my friend put on the car before I bought it had about 10,000 miles on them when I bought the car - now they have about 26,000 and are almost entire worn down... And I never "Smoke" my tires... maybe a chirp in 2nd gear once in a great while.

They have a 640 wear rating [B)]

So 1. they handle like crap in the corners (since they are pretty much 'rubbermaid' tires....)
and 2. they are almost worn down due to my highway driving. I think we can thank PA roads for that....

[hihi] Yea it explains a lot!! They are really quiet tires, sometimes it doesnt seem that they are there!! Like when you're braking hard!! [80?]
