I've had my 325i for about 5 weeks now. I guess I am urging to wax it... It was waxed at the BMW center the day I took delivery. It's still shiney, but it does'nt have slippery feel when touch with cloth. How long should I wait? [:(]

Anytime yuo want, by the time you recieved the car the paint is well cured.
Your not suposed to wax after a fresh paint job for a couple weeks just to be sure it is fuly dried and hardened, with todays technology, heated paint booths and ovens, etc....
Plus transit time, to dealer, etc..... Your paint was well cured before you even owned the car.

Thanks for the info guys...

Thats what I heard a few years back when I bought my first 325ci. I supposed to wait a few months to wait until the paint had dried or completely cured. Now I know...I can't wait to wax this weekend now.

I LOVE THIS BOARD!

Yeah, it's a common misconception. Well, not really a misconception, cars USED to be like that. But now, the car's paint is cured right when it comes out of the factory. Your dealership waxes your car as part of the prep for delivery, so it's a great idea to wax your car after your car is about a month old. Wash it with Dawn dish soap to get rid of the old wax that your dealership originally applied, make sure the car is thoroughly dry, and then wax away.

Wax - Polisg

Polish and wax are two different products. Polish is used to clean off the small particals and hide the scratches and swirls, it comes in different grades depending on the condition of your car. Once you have it clean and polished then you wax it, this helps put a protective film on it.

Hope that helps!

Abdoman, you don't need to clay a new car. The only thing a clay bar would do for a new car is to remove paint overspray, but BMW does a good paint job so that's not a problem.

rickcis, I just looked in my Guru Reports and they gave the Collinite Super Doublecoat Wax a final grade of C+ (just so you know their grading system, any wax that scored C+ or higher is worthy of purchasing) and earned Guru Reports Editors Choice award.

If you want the best wax you can get your hands on (in terms of optics and protection), P21S is the way to go. The stuff is like $32 for 6.2oz of carnauba wax but it's worth every penny.

When you get your car, wash it, dry it, then run your fingers over the paint. If you feel bumps (you probably will) then clay it. The paint should feel smooth as glass. You'll only need to polish if the dealer preps it like a moron (most do) and puts swirl marks in the paint.

I'd tell the dealer NOT to wax the car, just peel any stickers off and prep the inside. Do it yourself.

is there any particular way to wax? i waxed not long ago and a couple of days later, when the car was parked under the sun, it looked SHITE.

it just loooked as if it had swirl marks EVERYWHERE.

but i used Meguairs GOld Class wax...and dry cloth, applied it and wiped it off...section by section too like hood first then door etc...

am i doing it wrong?

Wax should be applied with an applicator (sponge or soft fiber) and removed with a soft terry cloth or microfiber towel. Most folks rave about the MF towel. Now, with swirl marks your doomed. You going to need a light-abrasive polish to buff those bad boys out.

Check this out: http://www.meguiars.com/faq/_index.cfm?faqCat=Swirl Marks
Lots of good info on how to properly care for your paint. I use some Meguiars products, and some Mothers products...
