I have a 2004 330CI that I bought at the end of June 2004. So far I already have 3,400 miles on it. I was wondering if I should get the extended warranty through BMW NA since I'll probably get to the warranty cut off of 50,000 in two years. How much are those warranties anyway? Thanks.

Hey there Tchen811.

BMW offers an extended "maintenance" package, but not an extended warranty. I bought the maintenance package. It normally costs $1600, but I got my dealer to pick up half the cost at the time I bought my car. It extends the standard "maintenance" coverage from 4 years / 50,000 miles to 6 years / 100,000 miles. It covers oil changes, major inspection services ( like inspection 1, inspection 2), brakes, etc. However, it does not extend the factory "warranty" on parts, etc., doesn't cover my convertible top (or associated mechanisms), doesn't cover lighting, powertrain, etc.

Hope this helps.

I was told by BMW of Sterling in VA that BMW as a company doesn't sell extended warranties. Extended warranties for BMW's are isssued/sold through 3rd party insurance type companies. This is something you will want to look into as the cost varies greatly AND some dealerships may not honor a warranty you purchased at a different dealership. Know what I'm sayin Verne?
Certified used vehicles are different I believe, these are probably covered by BMW just like original warranties.

Right on, Susie... that's exactly what my dealer told me at time of purchase. That's why I just opted for the extended maintenance. Since they picked up half the cost, I figured the $800 investment on my part was wise... especially since it covers brake pads, rotors, etc. That service alone could cost $800.

I tried to nego. on the price of the "extended warranty" but the BMW sales rep wasn't willing to budge at all! I think the cost was something like $1600.00! At the time I was buying my car I had negotiated $2,880.00 off of MSRP so I thought I did a pretty good job negotiating there ... unfortunately they weren't willing to wiggle on extended warranty or I would have bought it!

There are few extended warranty that you can purchase from 3rd party. But those have to purchased from the dealer. And the one that you can purchased by urself would be much more expensive.

I found this company called Continental Warranty. Their price is $2500 for another 4 yrs or 80K miles. What they cover:

Also, you might want to try calling your auto insurance agent up for any available car warranty. I have a friend got a 3yr, 36K mile extended warranty for $1600, for a 2000 323ci, with $20 deductiable from Farmers.

Hope this could be helpful.. [wave]

BigBear, thanks for the advice. I am currently with Allstate but am expecting to change over to Travelers. I am going to call to find out what would occur in the instance that I bought an extended warranty policy from Allstate and switched insurance carriers later on. Also, when it comes to 3rd party extended warranties - they're only as good as the company that sold the policy. If the company goes belly-up - so does your extended warranty ... just something to evaluate.
