How noisy is your fuel pump?

Mine seems kind of loud. Especially when I am near a surface that the sound can bounce off of and come back to my ear. Like in my garage.

Just wondering if this is normal or should it be very quiet.

How odd. I don't think I've ever heard my fuel pump. I hear mostly road noise, some minor wind noise, and my suspension creak every now and then. My passenger seat rattles occasionally. Oh, and some engine and exhaust noise obviously... but they sound so sweet it's more like music than noise.

I should have been more specific. I only hear this sound when the car is stopped, not when cruising down the road.

Do you ever notice it when you are stopped, passenger window rolled down, and near a surface where the sound can reflect back to you? Or get out of the car when it is running (please stop first [rofl] [rofl] ) and listen for it on the passenger side near the right rear tire area.

Its a hissing/humming sound, right bmwrocks? I took of some of the sound canceling material from the back seat area (close to the pump) (because of some other things, smell related) and I started hearing the pump. It's loudest when you are at idle and when if you accelerate hard and then right after brake hard, forcing the engine to have rpms but no fuel. It might be gasoline rushing back into the tank, I really don't know, it might also mean that the pump is going. How often do you drive on an almost empty tank? Because it shortens the life of the pump.
