Hi There, I bought my first BMW a few weeks back (2001 325i with 47k miles), and since then it's been a great ride.
Mine is a manual transmission. Sometimes when I shift gears, I get the sound. May be it's just me trying to be careful when shifting. But is this normal. It doesn't happen always, only sometimes when I put too less pressure when shifting.

- How to ensure that the transmission is in great shape? Do I really need to take it to the dealer / mechanic?
- How to shift gears? I tend to be too nice and soft just because it's a BMW (i've been using stick for last 10 years). Doyou recommend that I be hard and fast while shifting?
- Do you take a break between gears? I usually do. When I shift from 2 to 3, or from 3-4, I first bring it to neutral, wait a sec, then move it to next - for the RPM to adjust. Is that OK? Or should I be moving straight from one to the next?
- How to ensure that both the transmission and clutch remain in good condition?
