I Am Losing My Patience

Every small ding on the passanger side of my car (and there are 4) is from the Jackass next to me in the parking garage. The car has never been parked in a lot on the outside with cars on either side. There is no question that it happened in the parking garage under my building. (I live in NYC).

After not using my car for a week, I found a ding that has actually made a small chip in the paint! (Jet Black)

I was so angry, I had to REALLY hold myself back from not keying the entire side of the Mercedes SUV parked next to me.

Now I have a new space (with pillars on either side, so no car can get close to mine) but I still have these very small dings and this terrible CHIP!

I dabbed a bit of touch up into it to prevent any rust... Are there any solutions short of getting the whole panel painted?

Yes, I do know about paintless dent removal for the dings.

Thanks,

Joseph[?|]

Ouch, that hurts man. I personally would get it repainted if the money was available -- if not, then take it to a body shop and they can remove all dings and make it so it's not noticeable from 10 feet away.

I feel your pain! [mad] NYC to me seemed like the worst place for a nice car. A few years back our family friend bought a Maxima. He parked it in the UN garage (you would think should be a decent place?), and got a nasty door ding plus a scratch from what looked like a coat zipper on the first day...

I was trying to look at other cars from there on and practically all new cars had some kind of parking damage.

Have you tried using GS-27 Scratch Remover? It is basically a really low-grit car wax and it really moves the paint around. You should give it a try as I think it's probably the cheapest possible solution you can perform.

I fell your pain also living in NYC, and I promised myself never to put my bimmer in a parking garage. However, there is hope WITHOUT repainting the door. My friend who has a five series just bought a new door from the dealer, but that is extreme. Comming home from upstate, my dad was driving the 2001 740il, and the back left side of the car was hit by a deer while traveling 70mph. The whole side of the car was smashed. Body Work would have cost over 5,000 dollars. My next door neighbor bringes his S500 and SL500 to this paintless dent remover in Staten Island, brought the car to him, he is unbelievabel. He got all the dents out like they were never their! I don't know how he did it, and only charged $150! He is very good at what he does, he is the best. He is an honest bussiness man. He is very fair with his prices and my opinion very cheap for the quailty of his work. I can't find his bussiness card with the number and street adress, but I will have it for you tommarow. After he is done, I am telling you, you can't tell the dings or dents were even their.

Damn, I would not have been as composed as you were with that Mercedes...esecially if his door lined up with my ding.

Anyway, I've had all sorts (at least 5) little dings removed over the years by the guys who go into the door with the thin metal dealy and push the dings back out while using suction cups from the outside...costs $50 and looks as good as new. That might be what JC's guy is doing. (It's kinda annoying how easily our E46's ding...but that's the price we pay for having a light car.)

If there is a crease in the dent or the paint is chipped, then you're screwed...that's body shop work.

Have the dings fixed,

They ruin the lines....

You will feel better, then figure out your parking problem.

But dont wait, you will just stew over it needlessly.
