Welcome to the board, but I have to admit I know some women with some pretty awesome cars, so I am not sure what you mean when you say, "It drives like a womens car?" A bone stock 330cic should drive fairly well, power, handling, etc. are you looking for more power, better handling, or what exactly? Again welome to the board!

Well for $2000 you really cant buy much. You can probably start with the basics and go with an exhaust, intake and ECU.

If you want better handling you can go for coilovers down the line, but that alone will set you back a grand.

Hold him down for me Big Daddy.........good grief I can be at 70 in seconds, doesnt even matter if its 15 seconds, can be at 120 in less than a minute, if I needed to get there quicker, I should of left the house a minute earlier. [screwy]

I havent been on the board much lately, but glad to see that some things don't change when I come back for a visit..........so laughing.........generalizations of women.........killing me here. [?|]

Welcome to the board as well!!! [cheers]

A bone stock 330 handles better than 90% of the cars on the road today. Drives like a woman's car - yea - Danika Patrick's car!

You are only going to improve a 330 handling with performance struts/shocks (Konis, etc.). and a supercharger.

Visit Bavarian Autosport's website and look for the following items:

AFE cold air intake (approx. 20-25 hp gain)
OBDII Power Programmer (approx. 20-25 hp gain)
Tri-Flo stainless steel exhaust system (approx. 5-10% hp gain)
Meyle aluminum control arms (replaceable metal ball joints, etc.)

This should be a very good start and be well within your $2000 budget. I plan on doing these very same upgrades. Baby steps, baby steps...

The programmer might get 5-10 hp max, no way 20 - 25, the E46 factory software is already optimized. A CAI doesn't provide 20 - 25 hp, don't care what BAV Auto says on their web site, it's not true. 2.5 - 5hp reasonable; if you modify the exhaust, a CAI might get 8 - 10 hp max on a bimmer.

Hey, I'm just quoting Bav. Auto. and have no reason not to believe their claim. I haven't been steared in the wrong direction yet by them, or the products they carry. I've talked to them already and they stand by their products. If it doesn't perform as advertised they will refund your money. How can you go wrong with that?

I'll bet you have a manual transmission and you joined the "Money Shift" club!!!

Sorry, getting a complete 330 head assembly cheap is not going to be easy. You'll have to just start calling salvage yards. But most of them will not want to sell just the head off a good engine, it's not like this is a plentiful item.

may sound like a noob but what is the "Money Shift" club???
The "Money Shift" club is when someone wants to spend large
amounts of money fixing things that aren't broken, and then
when something actually breaks (valves, transmission, etc) the
money shifts from the bank account to the BMW dealer's hands.

Hehehehe [hihi]

That's good, but no that's not it.

A "Money Shift" is when you downshift into the wrong gear and destroy the engine by over-reving it. On 5 speeds, it's usually going 5 -> 2 instead of the intended 5->4 downshift.

What happens? The engine is forced to mechanically over-rev due to the road speed, it spins up to 10K - 12K+ RPM!! This causes the valves to "float" because the springs are not strong enough to quickly retract the valves. On most high performance engines, including our bimmers, they use an "interference" design. That means that the valves extend into the piston area and that the valves MUST be closed when the piston is at top dead center. This normally can never happen, but if the valves float due to over-reving, the piston hits them, destroying the valves and many times the pistons in the process.
