Maybe it's the warmer weather, but based on my computer I'm getting pretty significantly improved MPG around town since the car went beyond the 3,000 mile mark. My driving habits are the same, but she's getting 20.0 to 20.3 versus the old 19.0 to 19.5. Car also appears quicker both off the line and from 40-60. Again, could be the warmer temps, but I like it!

I'm no expert but...

I would expect an improvement in efficiency as the engine breaks in. As the engine breaks in friction is reduced and the piston rings seat-in and seal better.

I am assuming that your engine has 3000 mile or so total

I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your car. I can hardly wait to get my own!

On a related subject.....my highway fuel economy increased from 27-28 to a whopping 30-31 after changing my oil at 9000 miles!!

This is according to my vehicle computer, not manual calculation.

I reset it before leaving for a 120 mile highway cruise averaging 70-85 mph using cruise control about 75% of the time where traffic allowed.

To be honest I was shocked to see that good economy when the advertised economy is 27 hwy......

I am running 32 front and 38 rear (cold), as recommended on the door panel. I check the pressure before I drive the car for the day (about once a week). I also do not have a heavy foot 90% of the time. I drive the car gently unless I need to jet past someone or make headway in heavy highway traffic by zooming up an open lane or something.

Overall I am getting better than the advertised mileage. I am just lucky I guess.

I hardly think a savings of .004 cents is a signficant increase (assuming a $1.70 per gallon).

How did you arrive at .004 cents? Oh thats dollars per mile........HAHAHAHAHA

For everyone else......

He gets 0.5 mpg difference. Assuming a 16 gallon tank.....thats 13 extra miles.......

Assuming 20 mpg thats 13 / 20 = 0.65 gallons * $1.70 = $1.105 savings per tankfull.

1.105 / 16 = 0.069 dollars / gallon...... / 20 = 0.0034 dollars per mile

Maybe there is an easier way to arrive at the number....

Hey wait....if you drive 12000 miles/yr that's a whopping $41.44!!!!!!!!

bmwrocks....you´re genious hihi....

actually the statement that warmer weather increases mpg is wrong and right depending on the circumstances. colder air usually carries more oxygen. themore oxygen in the air the better the explosion --> resulting in better mileage as there is more power.

but on the other hand in warmer weather the car needs less time to warm up using more gaz of course. now depending on how much you drive, the one can have a better impact than the other. but of course we are talking 0.004 cents the mile...[hihi]

any way, i am happy about the little thinbgs too when they happen.
