I could have sworn that when I got my new 325xi, the 'mileage till service' was 15,000 at start-up. Well this morning, with 400 some miles on the odo, the 'mileage to service' comes up at 15,000.

Either it got reset by aliens, or it started out at 15,500 and I didn't notice.

Anybody know what the initial value is?

I was told by my BMW dealer that the mileage to service indicator does not count down as you put miles on the car. The car monitors the oil and other vital functions of the car, and then determines when you need service by the life and quality of fluids and how you drive the car. I have a 2004 330cic with 900 miles on it, and it is still basically showing the same mileage to service as the day I bought it.

Just relax and enjoy...the car is so warrantied and it is all free. Just sit down, and push the gas pedal down. Freude am Fahren!!!

Yeah, I would have thought the same thing, except that it WAS counting down and is now mysteriously at 1500 again.

Maybe it's determined that I drive like an old lady and kicked the miles back up [:)]

As an aside, this thing is just coming alive at 4500 rpm, when I'm supposed to shift because of the break-in period. I can't wait for that 1200 miles to be done with so I can open her up!

They do start at, and get reset to, 15500.
The indicator is based mostly on fuel usage on the newer cars. the computer uses the fuel injector on time to determine service interval

Great, thanks for the info. Guess I'm not paying enough attention that I didn't notice whether it started at 15,500 or 15,000.

Just over 600 miles to go before break-in is over ... [:D]
