Hey guys, new member here. Picking up my car today, a used 2000 323CI 5 speed. This will be the 3rd bmw that I'm going thru. With all the info I gathered on this site, this was the choice I went for on my budget. Looking forward to many more post on this great site. Thanks for all the info here.

I did have one question:
The car has 100K kilometers(60K miles) and the person I bought it from said he thinks it did go thru Inspection II at the dealer. I know the service interval was reset to show it has been done. Can someone just go to the dealer to get oil change and ask for reset to be done on service interval indicator or will they ony reset that when it is actually done fully? I know I had a reset tool on my E36 but do they have on for the E46? How can you tell? Thanks for your info.

Frosty Power 323 Newbie!!! [cheers]

I am sure they can if they know someone at the dealership, but the best way to tell is to take the VIN to the dealership it was serviced at and ask them to run a service record on the vehicle. They should have no problem doing it.

Yeah, the key is supposed to store all that information and the dealer will be able to know. Least on the newer cars they do.

The dealer is supposed to reset the service computer whenever they do something. They sometimes forget though. Mine forgot. Did an oil change for free and they forgot to reset it. That means I get another free one in 7500 miles or so instead of 15,000 according to the computer. :)
