first of all i'd like to say hi to everybody and congrats on the website.

i got an amp and subwoofer (and cables) i had in my old bmw. i would like to install it into my e46 318ci 2005 model. i pulled the radio out and realised that the connectors from the amp cable were not compatible. does anyone know where the remote lead cable (light blue) and the red and black amp cables go?

would i need an adaptor? or would i need to remove the connectors by cutting them off and inserting them into back of the radio?

thx

it said no compatible products for my car! although i looked around and so a line output converter:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-mhTnkrHIW8T/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?g=721&avf=N

is this what i need? can't i just cut off the red and black phono plug and insert the cables into the back of the factory head unit? trouble is i don't know into which holes the cables would go into. not forgetting the remote (light blue cable).

Wile, have you tried the local car audio shop? (Not the Circuit City
megastores, but the small local shops who know what they're doing.)

yeah, one said they would have to check in the internet on how to install an amp in a new bmw e46 (they never got back to me) and the other said it would cost me £70 to install!

so i thought it would be cheaper to install myself, besides i pulled out the old cables from my old e36 compact and noted exactly how the cables were connected so i wouldn't make any mistakes. that's when i ran into the factory head unit problem.

This is something you shouldn't attempt if you haven't done it before. I would suggest going to a place like Tweeter or Sound advice to have this work performed. If you modify the factory harness at all you could run into a lot of trouble. There is no remote lead in the dash, all the connections you need are in the trunk. Switched and constant 12volt. You also would grap the signal from the factory amp in the left rear corner.
