Hey guys, i have read many different opinions on this topic just curious on what you guys think. I have a 90 325i and i want to know what you feel i sbest induction.

-Stock air box-Modified (drilled or shaved) airbox
-warm air intkake w/heatshield
-cold air intake
-ram air w/stock air box
-ram air w/warm air intake and heatshield.

and what type of filter would be best,
-paper
-oiled gause
-oiled foam

from what i hear, paper filters the best and gause filters the worst. But paper resticts the mose and gause is least, seems from what i heav heard the foam is kinda in teh middle. let me know what you guys think. Thanks

cool, a local ... err, where i lived for a while

i have researched and read to extent and found a majority to agree (and it makes sense too) the best is:
paper filter and
stock airbox thats "fogged" (aka bored out)
or cold air (w/ shield of course)

ram air is pointless. at 70 mph you have 0.1 psi*, at 170 mph you have 0.6 psi*... big whoop. best thing to do is get the air cold. that can include heat-wrapping your exhaust manifold and shielding intake components.

other things you can do is increase the opening by converting to modified AFM (3.5L version) or MAS conversion and big bore throttle body.

That's a new one for me. What is a fogged airbox?

And have you done the AFM conversion?

fogged airbox is, quite simply, a larger intake opening and strategic placement of the intake.

i am in the middle of getting the parts together for the AFM conversion. The AFM conversion is 535i (e28) AFM with 325i circuit board. i have built the AFM - so much bigger than the old one. poblem is i am trying to find a stock looking vacuum boot to fit both the oversized AFM to the throttle body. i think the e28 528e will be the right fit, just not too sure atm. plus i am trying to find a larger airbox that will fit in relatively the same way as the old one.
