I think you might have to get rid of the cd changer to do it. Or you could get one of those new head units that have the iPod capability... a google search should help you find out more info on brands and possibilities.

You'd definitely need to disconnect the changer--I have the iPodYourBMW interface in my 2005 325i and it uses the "CDC" mode on the headunit. "Discs" 1-5 are user-defined playlists, 6 is the full library.

I would double check BMW's website to verify compatibility. I think there were some running changes made to the Business CD headunit over the life of the E46; I believe the iPodYourBMW interface (which is made for BMW by Alpine, btw) only works on 2003-and later E46's (that's also what the Bavarian Autosport catalog is showing). If you want to retain the stock look, you could probably swap in a Business CD unit out of an 03-05; I have no idea what the compatibility would be between the newer headunit and your existing amp/speaker setup.

If you don't demand the "stock" look, Alpine makes some pretty good headunits that are iPod compatible.

Can you use the aux. input item that Bav Auto sells in your car if you have the CD changer? I have a 2003 E46 and just got an ipod. I never use the 6 disc changer so I guess I can sell it if I need to.

330i and like it said:
Is it possible to get a IPOD hard wired into the CD changer of a 2001 - 330i, the dealer was not sure either way.

Thanks
Some possible solutions:

These are cheap ways to do it, as long as you don't mind using the IPOD controls.

You would also lose use of your factory CD changer with this one: http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzbmwmlink1v1.html

Or upgrade your changer to the Alpine CHA-S634 and then use this adapter:
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzbmwmlink1v1d.html

Or upgrade your changer to the Alpine CHA-S634, and use a headphone-to-RCA adapter on your IPOD with the following (this is what I currently do):
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzbmwalpdmxv1d.html Also with this one you can plug any audio source into the RCA jacks and listen through your car sound system (portable DVD player, etc.).

Affirmative on the aux input. It is unrelated to the 6-disc changer connections.
