Does anyone know anything about the "prewired for cellular phone" feature of our cars? Do you know if it is Bluetooth compatible?

Does anyone here have cellular installed in their 3 series?

my car has the new bluetooth phone. its really useful if u use your phone a lot in the car and u cant even see the phone system. Its internal so whenever you're within about 30 ft from the car your cell phone (if its bluetooth) works w/ the car also so if u get a call on your cell, it turns down the music in your car and rings in your car. i think it works the same as the other phone (didn't have the old phone) except it has no wires/cables or phone holder...its internal using bluetooth signals. but if your cell has no service, then obviously the car phone wil lhave no service.

Does the system have voice activated interactive control?

My provider (Verizon) doesn't have any bluetooth phones I don't think, at least I can't find any, so I am SOL anyway in that respect.

I would have to change providers which is not an option currently.

Hmmm...I know that on the 7 series it is voice activated, just like everything else in that car!

Not sure about the 3 series...maybe not.

ya the 3 series is voice activated w/ the button on the steering wheel. u press and say "dial" and then like "222" (pause) "2222". its really good because i have my cellphone somewhere in my bag in the back so i can use my phone w/ my steering wheel. and it also includes the voice activation for gps so u can say "map" and the map will show up....

Ok so let me get this straight. If you get the bluetooth phone thing going on you also get voice activated GPS? What other GPS voice commands can you issue?

i have the voice activation instruction guide in front of me and at the end of the instructions is a kinda of summary of the navigation commands (so it doesn't exactly include them all but...):

Route map
Scale 400 feet/.../Scale 50 miles
Navigation
Gas station at current location/at destination
Parking lot at current location/at destination
Hotels at current location/at destination
Restaurants at current location/at destination
Save position/save current position
instruction
instruction off
new route

and then the voice commands for phone summary:
Dial number
correction
clear
cancel
dial name
save
delete name
play phonebook/read phonebook
clear phonebook
record note
play notepad
clear notepad

its very easy to use because u could say the word fast/normally and it'll understand it. its not super sensitive. If u say the number slowly though as if u were a computer it might make a mistake but usually people dont say a number that slowly...i think its great though

Does anyone know if this is possible on my 325i '03, I know the car is pre-wired for a cell phone, but what about this bluetooth service. Where would one get this service . Any info would be appreciated

Check this website and you will see that the kit would work in your vehicle.

Installing the kit would instantly give you bluetooth compatibility in the car. I am still unclear if the vehicle needs any additional programming (above and beyond pairing) after the hardware is installed. My feeling would be yes if you were trying to integrate with the navi system.

As far as "bluetooth service", you would need a provider that has bluetooth phones available. There is no special service as the bluetooth is just interaction between bluetooth devices (phone and car in this case).

Thanks for the info BMWROCKS, this is not an inexpensive option, and look like you would have to take half the inside apart to install.
I wonder if there is an after market kit compatible to the one sold by BMW.
