Thanks to you guys on the board, I ordered my 330xi today!!! Silver gray, and the only option being the fold down seats (damn it should be standard!). Anyway, I'm looking at May delivery....sigh.

Oh the wait!!!

If I wasn't such a chicken, I would have gotten the i instead of the xi, but several people I know that have driven or own the 330Ci have told me that it was terrible in snow. At least I get something that's moderately fast, and good in the snow. Now I'll probably get relocated to Arizona in June...phttt.

xyrium, congrats.
either way the i or xi is nice. i was like you when i was ordering my car, debating between the i and xi. i ended up with the 330i and bought an extra set of rims w/ winter tires for the snow. i just loved the look of the sport pkg on the 330i.
anyway, getting through this winter ok so far. of course i used the wife's civic for the heavy snow, didn't want to take any chances and probably would've done the same with the xi with all the other drivers sliding all over the place. but in about two inches of snow my car was fine with the winter tires.
now you just have to get through the hardest part of your order....the long wait![:D]

Damn, I have to change the "what I drive " part of my profile!!! Wheehoo!

BTW, anyone know what these settings are?

Automatic Locking Key
Selective Cntrl Unlocking Key

They are on a "get ready sheet" my salesman gave to me and asked me to fax back to him when I'm ready.

Also, I've confirmed with BMWoA that if I had ordered the sport package for the xi, the suspension is absolutely no different than stock. You just get different rims, tires, and seats (and one other item I believe). Shocks, springs, and bars remain the same. Bummer, that's why I didn't order it.

Congrats on the choice. I love the color which is new for 2004 and found the fold downs useful already and I've only had the car 2 months.
Yeah, the color choice was VERY difficult. I like the silver, but wanted something different. I love the Imola Red, but thought it was too different! I also liked the steel blue, but have seen it appear purple under certain lighting. However, this car look great in every color they sell! The fold downs were a no brainer...utilitarian at heart. Do you have any pics of yours?

Congrats Xyrium-

You won't be disappointed with your choice. Unfortunatly, you are now going to be sucked into the BMW world of "nothing else compares". Your choice of the folding rear seats was a smart choice, as you'd curse the car every time you bought goods too big for just the trunk.

As far as the wait period...UGH! That's indeed tough. But the toy waiting at the end of the rainbow will be like therapy that will never cease! I'm excited for you- as driving my car every day is simply one of life's awesome pleasures!

Now it's time to join the BMW Car Club of America (BMW CCA) and go to a driver's school to really learn how to drive!!

Thanks jaf211. I was considering Skip Barber (I think that's the name) school of driving about to years ago, but never acted upon it. I may still consider it, however racing a floaty 330xi around probably isn't the best thing to do. Maybe in a year or so when I change the suspension!

Car and Key Settings Explained

Automatic Locking Key, when enabled, will auto-lock all the doors once you reach 5 mph.

Selective Control Unlocking Key, when enabled, will open only the driver's door when the open button in pressed the first time. All the other doors will open when the open button is pressed a second time. With this feature disabled, all the doors will open the first time the open button is pressed.

Here is a good, detailed list for the car and key settings I found on the Net: http://www.bmwnation.com/home.html. Once on the website, click Tech --> Tech Glossary --> Car and Key Configuration Options - 3 Series E46

"and once again, congrats!"

[wave] Xyrium... & [thumb] on the color selection.

I am in the process of researching some 'auto detailing' items {polishes/waxes}.

Check out premiumautocare.com

I think I'm going to go with the Klasse 'All In One' {polish} followed by an application of their
'High Gloss Sealant Glaze' and P21S 'Carnauba wax' ... The kit is called "The Concours Look Show Stopper Kit."

I'll be ending my work assignment and home in April to get you some photos of what you can look forward to... [:D]
