Should I just change the oil and the oil filter? Or do I have to worry about microfilter and/or anything else?

I picked up this CPO car at 25,000 miles and this will be my first oil change on it or on any BMW. I can take it to BMW for about $75 but I want to get a competitive price from the local Big O (they are friends of mine and have done oil changes on my Rover for 5 years).

I don't do it myself....Big O only charges me $20 for a change on my Rover - that's 7 quarts of oil & a filter! I can't do it cheaper myself (nor do I really want to...I do all the mechanical work on my off-road only Land Rover). The BMW should be a bit more because I'll be specifying Mobil 1 synthetic and a genuine BMW filter.

It's a 2001 325i, CPO. The oil has been in for 10,000 miles and still looks pretty good. Reading a bit low, less than 1 quart low.

Thanks for the advice!

You should have them take a peek at the air filter at least. All the other fluids, like tranny, differential, radiator, etc. are up to you.

And your oil change is gonna cost a hell of a lot more than $20 cuz of the synthetic oil.

yeah, I keep tabs on all the fluids and the air filter. I just spend enough time wrenching on the Rover so that I don't want to bother getting under the BMW to do oil. I've purchased over 10 sets of tires at this Big O so they charge me a nominal fee for service. Up until last year, I was only paying $16 for oil & filter & tire rotate on the Rover.

P.S. thanks for the quick response

Congrats to you Blue. You are getting a HELL of a deal on 7 quarts of oil, a filter, a rotation and the labor. That has got to be at cost (dino oil) with no labor, lucky you. For anyone who is is wondering or doesn't know, these shop chains and many many independents buy their oil in bulk and fill your car from a big storage tank, hence the low cost to Blue. The oil is perfectly good and equal quality to the plastic bottle. Correct me if I am wrong Blue.
