Just got '84 318i!!!

I just got a '84 318i for 500 bucks. It has 150,000+ miles on it and its an auto. The car sat for 2 years and I just got it started a few days ago(new Batt.), I runs kinda rough, and pings alittle, I figure its nothing a good tune up won't fix. I figure a set of plugs, plug wires, air/oil/fuel filter, some new oil, ATF, and coolant flush would be a good idea to get it street ready. O yeah and it needs front brakes, I can handle that. If you guys know of anything else I should check i would be grateful, All i know is that it needs the stuff I listed, I test drove it.

I would definitely change ALL the fluid, and make sure there arent any animals living somewhere under ther car... seriously.

You should probably put another $500 into getting parts replaced, including most of the ignition system (IE distributor and maybe the coil?). How are the tires? Usually when a car sits on the tires at 1 place for a long time, it can mess up the tires.

the tires are good, which suprised me, Im really suprised it started up for me took about 10 tries tho, I didn't take a close look at the distributor yet, the power steering is messed up also, my guess it was leeking and the took the belt off the power steering pump and just left it like that, Im not to worried about that, from what i hear alot of those cars did that.

The leak is most likely coming from the high pressure power steering pump hose. Mine did that, so I went to house of hose and had them make one for me. If you need any parts, let me know in the very near future. I am parting out my 1985 right now. Most of the interior is gone, and a fair amount of the other parts. Name it and I will see if I can help you out. I can also probably help you out if you have any issues with it. Off the top of my head, I would advise on getting some intake cleaner and spraying down the insides of the AFM, Idle Control Valve, and the Idle Vacuum hoses.

Don't forget the filter inside the transmission. You have to drop the pan to access it. I assume your tranny is similar to my now sold '85 318i and 325i. The 1984s used a ZF3HP22 (3 speed) and the newer models use an ZF4Hp22 (4 speed). Check out the steering rack for leakage as that can be expensive.
