No Good right? That motor mount is shot! And see how far the engine has slid over? Hopefully the parts will be comming in tomorrow. Got any tips on jacking up the engine besides block of wood on my oil pan?

Ha! I can't believe how far the engine has moved. When my motor mounts wore out, the upper mounting plate just detached from the rubber mount - the engine didn't actually move laterally in the car like that.

Nah, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Just jack the engine up using a block of wood on the oil pan. You should be able to move it enough to get things to line back up. It's really quite an easy job. I was amazed how much easier it was to change the motor mounts on this car than it is on my old Camaro (which I used to routinely destroy motor mounts on when launching hard).

holy cow. you better check your transmission mounts too.

I think i put a two by four standing on end and jacked that up on the engine mount arm. I don't remember exactly. I know that it was dangerous how i did it though.

Well doing engine mounts isn't that dangerous... its not like the engine could literally fall on you (maybe just fall on your arm when you have it up), but the engine doesn't weigh much more than a really fat person.

Yea uh last may I rear-end a minivan. I was only going about 10mph. But it fast enough to cause the engine and transmission to shift forward. Then part of the gear shifter mount came out of its holder, its got a long rod that reaches back past the shifter a little ways to a holder that gives the shifter support. So then the shifter was bouncing on the driveline. Best replace the rubber mounts.

I havent replace my motor mounts or tranny mounts yet, been focusing on a motorcycle, but I will sometime this year. Probably take no more then an hour to both sets of engine and tranny mounts. These cars have some of the simplist motor mount design I have seen, so easy to replace. Later

Oh yea, and the fan hit the radiator too. Didnt puncture it, but left some dents. I ended up junking the radiator 6 months later. But it was a cheap radiator.... argh.

yeah i was just scared about losing a finger if the engine fell off the wood and i had it between something. Perhaps it was an unnecessary fear.......

Well thats what i'm saying could happen, but its not like the engine will fall down through or anything.

My motor mounts died and the motor shifted sideways like yours. Lucky for you and me the engine didn't slide into the radiator.

I hope you replaced the mounts with good quality ones and inspected the transmission mounts too as they hold the rear of the engine up via the gearbox.

If you have a chain block (block and tackle) just undo the bonnet strut pin and tilt the bonnet vertical, then lift via the engine lift point at the front of the engine - you should get enough movement to not have to remove the mount brackets (triangle things).
