Picked up my new 325I last week.

At closing the salesman explained BMW Assist and indicated I have it for a year free but they needed a credit card to start it. I would not be billed unless I decided to keep it after one year at which time they would use the credit card I had on file.

Guess what - they billed my credit card $240.00 last night. I am pissed and waiting to hear from him. To make matters worse the credit card I used is one I use just for small internet purchases (credit Limit 500 - someone told me years ago this was a good way to do it) That billing put me over 500 and the credit card company hit me with a fee of $50.00 for being over credit limit.

Do they make commission on this stuff?

Anyone else have this problem?

I don't recall, but I'm 99% sure that they did not ask for our credit card when we got our xi. Even if they did, you shouldn't have had a charge.

My dealer didn't ask for a CC when we initialized the Assist. That's total BS they charged you. I bet they'll refund it. I second CaveDweller's suggestion of using BMW Assist in your car and handle it from there.

When we get our Mercedes, Tele Aid is free for the first year, but the dealership needs a credit card number just to activate it. My dad did not like this, but he gave his CC info anyways but he was not billed. I am surprised you were billed, especially since it's free for the first year. Talk to your salesman and find out wtf happened. It's not even a big deal to have it NOT activated.

That's no bueno! You need to get that $50 refunded as well. Bring in a receipt. Tell them you felt deceived and lied to. You've already spent enough money and that's unacceptable for them to milk you for any more.

I work in the customer service industry and asking seemingly rhetorical questions in situations like this work best. i.e. "What kind of customer service is this?" It puts them in an uncomfortable position and the likely way out of it will be to for them to refund all monies.

I chose the option of not giving them a CC#. You should use BMW Assist in your car and ask why you were charged.
call them from your car...that'd be halarious
