Key not recharging?

Wadula, how do the E36 keys look like? I thought they were the same as the E46 ones? Anyways, my salesman told me to charge the key by driving with it for at least half an hour. Anything shorter might not do it. If you've driven for at least an hour, than definitely take it back to the dealer cuz it sounds like it's busted.

How long does it take to charge a key? I have been trying to rechage for 2 weeks. Is anyone else with a 2002 3-series having this issue?
From what I am to understand your key should charge as you drive your car. If it is not you might want to try using your other master key and see if it charges or not. Other wise I would look into seeing if the charging system or the key's battery is dead.

I second that. I had no idea our keys get recharged. I figured I would eventually have to crack that puppy open and put in a new battery.

Well, if you get just a regular replacement battery, then it won't be recharged. You havet to get a rechargeable replacement battery. Garra, maybe you have a non-rechargeable battery somehow in your key(s).

hmm, I guess it's an E46 thing. I know my dealer told me to switch keys every now and then to keep them both charged. There's no apparent way to open my key fob either. I always thought the E36s had it too since most of them have had the coded driveway protection.
