Learning the different models

I am a newbie that is considering buying a used BMW 3 series convertible. This will be a 3rd fun car. I was considering a newer Mustang convertible but the BMWs loom so great and my wife agrees!
Is there somewhere I can learn the differnces between models (323, 325, 330, 328)? I am considering the years 2000-2004. Some on EBay look really good.

The only difference in the models you list is the engine size, the first letter, a "3" series and the last two the engine size in liters. 2.3, 2.5, 3.0 and a 2.8. Also see the John G. Burns page for more information.

There is one sometimes confusing thing regarding convertibles:

What is the difference between a 330ci and a 330cic? The 330ci is a 2 door coupe, the 330cic is a 2 door convertible. BUT you will see 330cic only in printed documents, manuals, etc. The convertible car will still have a badge on it that says 330ci, not 330cic.
