Hmm...looks like I've missed quite a bit. Bignate, why do you say my price is expensive? The kit retails for $1061 in the UK and that doesn't include shipping, import taxes/duties. for about 1200, you get everything (including the foglights) and shipped to your door.
As for the MTech 2 package, Steve is correct on my reasoning for not moving forward with the replica kits. In order for me to get everything made properly, I would have to invest over $10K just to get a set of molds made. I debated about try a cheaper route by making them in fiberglass, but I don't want to put my name on anything unless is is top quality. If I do eventually decide to do this, the panels will be pressure injection molded and made out of a composite material to ensure strength and durability. Realistically, unless I had about 15-20 people willing to put a good deposit on a kit...It would be a serious loss of money.
Steve, to answer your question about the difference betwen ABS and fiberglass...ABS plastic is generally the best material for body kits because it is lightweight, flexible and very durable. That's why most car manufacturers are using it instead of sheet metal nowadays. Fiberglass pieces are made (usually by hand) by laying several layers of fiberglass against each other with layers of resin and allowed to harden. Fiberglass can be strong, but over time it can become brittle if not made properly.
Newer fiberglass pieces are being manufactured with a layer or two of kevlar fabric to increase it's strength and durability without weighing it down. From what I understand these pieces are usually labeled GFK (or kevlar reinforced fiberglass).
ABS Plastic, while the better choice of the two is expensive and requires special tooling and equipment. Molds for pieces can run high into the thousands of dollars per piece. However after the molds are made, the cost to make each part is much cheaper.
Sorry to everyone for the long post
