Hi all,

Just finished a brake job, and noticed that my front passenger side wheel had some movement and play when I was taking the wheel off. When I got inside, I noticed that the bottom joint (not sure what it's called, but it does have a small sleeve on it) was loose? Attempted to tighten, but didn't want to tighten any further.

Also, I do notice a small clunking when I hit bumps slowly from that side. Anyone know what the fix would be? I do not have a part diagram, so anyone that could post one would be appreciated.

regards,

Jon

It could be your control arm. E46's have weak control arm bushings that when fail, cause the clunk. There should be a recall on those. Here's the diagram of the parts.

What do you mean by clunk, Isn't that normal for the ride over bumps to be a bit rougher as the vehicle ages? For me it's been about 8 months and the ride isn't as quiet and smooth as when it was brand new.

No, this is not a normal sound. It isn't horrible either, however, I do believe it causes the car to have a slight shimmy at about 85 or so.

Akakubi, your diagnosis does sound possible, with the suggestion of a bushing. How 'bout one more try on that diagram?

thanks,
Jon
